What are the advantages of B2B electronic invoicing?

With the new obligation of B2B electronic invoicing between private companies in Italy coming into force as of 2019, many companies want to know what advantages they will obtain from this system.

The main consequence of the implementation of the B2G electronic invoice has been digital transformation of both businesses and the public sector. Most stakeholders in the public sector have implemented an electronic invoice solution in accordance with the binding nature of European Directive 2014/55/EU that will come into force in November 2018.  The SdI platform has been available to be used optionally for the exchange of B2B transactions since January 2017.

The main reasons behind the implementation of B2B electronic invoicing arise from the perspective of the Public Administration to achieve certain objectives such as simplifying tax processes, avoiding tax evasion, and improving interoperability between the stakeholders involved in invoicing processes.

In addition, the use of an electronic solution in the B2B field favors the internal processes of companies and provides them with great operational advantages. For example:

  • Manage all transactions and documents regarding electronic invoicing in a streamlined manner from the company’s own ERP (internal management system).
  • Improve profitability and productivity, as electronic exchange guarantees traceability of operations, and this has a positive effect on payment times.
  • Simplification of paperwork and increased economic savings. According to AGID (Digital Italy Agency), adoption of an electronic system generates a saving of around €17 per invoice.
