The Government of Uruguay plans to replace paychecks on paper by the electronic format. This was reported in the El País newspaper on 23 March. On one hand, the aim of this measure would be to lower business costs incurred as a result of the high volume of paper used and, on the other, enhance and facilitate the information that workers receive about their wages.
Businesses currently have to issue the wage receipt on paper. The employee then has to sign it physically and return one of the copies. The process is long and particularly difficult to manage throughout the year, and Human Resources and Admin departments spend a lot of time on these tasks. It is also awkward for the workers, who must organize these documents correctly and then check them against their bank movements if they have any queries.
With the electronic wage receipt, this whole procedure is simplified. The company issues the wage receipt in e-format, with no need to print out and store copies on paper. Once this is done, the employees simply access a web application with their username and password, and then sign the document digitally (with a simple click). In other words, the process is streamlined, boosting productivity, and becomes more secure, while cutting financial costs, as the use of paper and printing is no longer needed.
So far, some countries have already implemented this system, achieving greater efficiency. The best example is Mexico, where the digital wage receipt is mandatory and in force since 2014. There, long lines of workers in big companies waiting to sign their paychecks are a thing of the past, the procedure takes less time and savings and sustainability have been increased.
How to issue electronic wage receipts?
EDICOM has developed the Business@Mail Payrollssolution, which automatically and securely manages all your wage receipts. Through this platform, companies can issue and deliver salary receipts to their employees electronically. These documents reach their recipients confidentially through a web application, so they can sign them with a single click and check them later.
