SaaS: The Revolution of Technological Services in the Cloud
05/05/2017
The software-as-a-service (SaaS) market is growing around the world and is expected to double by 2020. But why are companies opting for this technology in the cloud?
There are currently several tools available that bring us increasingly closer to a paperless society. Technologies such as EDI or cloud computing allow us to save on costs, at the same time as reducing our environmental footprint
“Cloud computing” and “virtualization” similar but not the same

When reading, we may often find certain technology-related terms confusing or difficult to understand. By simplifying them to make them easier to understand, we might be making the mistake of not paying attention to the finer shades of meaning that mark the difference. Something like this has happened with the acronyms SaaS, PaaS and IaaS, which just a few months ago we explained here. This time, we would like to focus on another concept related with cloud computing: virtualization.

In this era of crisis, cloud computing is positioned as the ideal option to save on costs and improve the performance in business and administrative transactions at all levels, public and private.
Data security and privacy in the network is a matter of great concern for businesses engaging in e-commerce, especially in areas such as banking, health or the Public Sector.

According to a study carried out by Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), if use of the Cloud were to become widespread in the majority of companies worldwide, this would prevent 9,1 gigatonnes of CO2 emissions.
This is one of the most striking items in the annual study drawn up by Uptimate Institute, based on a representative sample of 1000 operators in the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
The “cloud” concept is very broad and takes in different types of services that have little to do with each other. To classify them, we use the acronyms ASP-SaaS, PaaS and IaaS. But what does each of them mean?
Outsourcing software and hardware in the cloud, as well as the human resources needed to keep it updated and in proper working order, gives rise to insecurity in some users, who also worry about breaches of their data protection. Choosing a suitable service provider is crucial to achieve maximum benefit from cloud-based solutions.
If the right policies are applied, by 2020 cloud computing could give rise to two and a half million jobs in the European Union and contribute €250 billion to its Gross Domestic Product (entailing annual growth of 1%).
