EDICOM, certified as Access Point for the PEPPOL network in Australia and New Zealand

18/06/2020

EDICOM has been certified as an Access Point in Australia and New Zealand by the PEPPOL authorities in each country. In Australia, by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and in New Zealand, by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

Thus, any company or public entity that wishes to invoice electronically in Australia or New Zealand can do so through the EDICOM Global e-Invoicing platform.

With these recent certifications, EDICOM reaffirms its position as a global leader in e-Invoicing by offering services in more than 70 countries.

Electronic Invoicing in Australia and New Zealand

In 2018, Australia and New Zealand decided to implement their e-Invoicing project in tandem through the “Australia and New Zealand Government Electronic Invoicing Arrangement”.

The objective of the agreement is to improve productivity and reduce the cost of commercial operations for both governments, and for companies, through establishment of a unique digital and interoperable market.

In 2019, following in the footsteps of other countries like Singapore, Australia and New Zealand announced that the e-Invoicing exchange system would work through the PEPPOL network.

In choosing this international network, the governments hope to increase business opportunities in the global market for businesses in their respective countries.

Beginning this year, any business or public institution in New Zealand or Australia may choose to invoice electronically.

The government of each country estimates a savings of 30 billion dollars over ten years thanks to electronic invoicing.

What is PEPPOL?

PEPPOL stands for Pan European Public Procurement OnLine. It is a set of specifications created to encourage the digitalization of both B2G and B2B transactions.

It began as an initiative to strengthen cross-border business ties between European Union countries. However, its capacity for interoperability and the strength of its telecommunications network have led to its expansion outside the EU.

The PEPPOL system allows companies to send and receive orders, invoices, shipping notes, order confirmations and credit notes under a common standard, regardless of the country in which each partner resides.

Businesses and other entities communicate through PEPPOL Access Points that are certified by each country.

How to invoice electronically in Australia and New Zealand

In order to send and receive electronic invoices in Australia and New Zealand, companies must contract an Access Point that has been certified by the PEPPOL authorities in each country. This Access Point will be capable of routing messages in alignment with the PEPPOL network specifications.

Additionally, both businesses and public organizations will need to use a software that can transform electronic invoices from their management systems into the standard format, PEPPOL BIS Billing 3.0.

In New Zealand, companies must have an ID number, the New Zealand Business Number (NZBN).

EDICOM’s Global e-Invoicing platform allows companies to generate invoices in the PEPPOL format and send them through the network via complete integration with the ERP.

A scalable and centralized solution made to invoice worldwide that aligns with the technical and legal requirements in each country, EDICOM’s international invoicing service allows for the automatic, immediate exchange of any commercial document with public institutions, clients, and suppliers.

Reduction in payment times for public providers in Australia

Decree: Supplier Pay On-Time or Pay Interest Policy

To encourage the use of electronic invoicing, the Australian government launched the decree “Supplier Pay On-Time or Pay Interest Policy” on January 1st. It establishes that public administrations receiving electronic invoices through PEPPOL will initiate the payment to suppliers within 5 days. The only prior requirement is that contracts be equal to or less than 1 million Australian dollars.
