Are you ready for the Spanish SII electronic VAT system?



In less than four months, 62,000 Spanish businesses will be required to adapt to the new mandatory Immediate Information Sharing system (SII). As of July 1st 2017, these companies will have to send their VAT ledgers electronically to the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT).

This electronic VAT registration system will require companies paying taxes in Spain to report their transactions on a real-time VAT management platform, within 4 working days of receiving or issuing an invoice. However, during the first six months of the implementation, this period limit will be extended to 8 working days. With this model, documents 390, 340 and 347 will no longer need to be submitted to the AEAT. Read here the decalogue on how to be prepared for the SII.

Under the new VAT e-bookkeeping process promoted by the AEAT, there are two aspects that are critical for businesses. On the one hand, we find the need to extract the data from the invoice and transform it into the mandatory XML schema developed by the AEAT. In this sense, businesses that already have e-billing systems up and running will have a factor in their favour in VAT e-bookkeeping, as a large amount of the data will already be residing in their ERPs. On the other, it will be necessary to connect with the SII system and develop a fluid and secure communication channel for sending the data, as well as receiving the acknowledgements that may be sent by the AEAT.

The EDICOMsii Solution is ready

Our solution is integrated with the company ERP or internal management system to automate sending of data to the Tax Agency. This information is forwarded in the set XML format to the SII via web services through the EDICOM Public Administrations HUB. When the AEAT Agency receives data, it validates and returns one of these states: full acceptance, partial acceptance or total rejection. These responses, which may also be integrated in the ERP, are stored along with the original books sent to the AEAT in the EDICOMLta long-term safekeeping service, which is designed to provide responses to the particular features of SII, with a personalized viewer that lets you retrieve a replica of the VAT books kept in the la AEAT electronic office.

Pilot project participation: EDICOM was chosen by the AEAT take part in the SII pilot project throughout the first semester of 2017. This means that when the new system comes online in July 2017, the technological solution will have been tested and will perfectly meet the requirements demanded.
