The letters OFTP stand for Odette File Transfer Protocol, A communication standard developed by the “Organisation for Data Exchange by Tele-Transmission in Europe” (ODETTE) to facilitate the exchange of information between companies in the automotive sector. The latest version is identified as “OFTP2”.
This protocol uses Internet as a communications channel, but also includes additional signature and data encryption functions to ensure a smooth and secure exchange of structured EDI messages and CAD engineering files between OFTP servers.
In the automotive industry, where “Just In Time” management models are predominant, communications are extremely critical. To this end, EDICOM decided to evolve the EOS product (EDICOM OFTP Server), developing it integrally in Java.
The outcome of this evolution is a highly robust and reliable multi-platform solution which provides greater assurances to users in managing their communications.
EOS can be installed “in-house” in the client's infrastructure, or accessed in service mode through the EDICOMNet private communications network. The latter option avoids the user having to devote resources to the installation, management and monitoring of their OFTP communications.
